I just wanted to give a quick update on my travels to my home state, California. Right now, I am sitting in my hotel room trying to tackle the poor Wi-Fi service in this nice hotel (Yelp review coming)
Ok, so I am in San Jose, California, just miles away from where I was born, Fremont, California. Tim Moore and I are here for an exciting international event called Social Networking World Forum – North America. The company that organized this event, 6 Degrees, is based in England, and are extremely organized in international planning. They are holding events like this one all over the world, and this is their US stop.
The Event:
Starts Monday November 8th – November 9th, 2009. This 2 day conference will focus totally on social media, and it’s use in business. What I like about this event is that it focuses how other companies are leveraging social media, and receiving ROI. Other highlights:
We Are Speaking With Some Cool Peeps:
Tim and I were invited to not only be one of the few sponsors, but also to participate on panels. We are humbled that two guys from little ole’ Wilmington, NC will be contributing to this event. Take a look at both of our discussions. For a full schedule of both days, take a look at this PDF.

You may be asking, “What is SMBF” right? Well, this acronym was no doubt a popular #hashtag trending on Twitter. It stands for Social Media Business Forum, an event that took place just a few days ago in Raleigh, NC. A well known social media thought leader, and good friend, Wayne Sutton (@waynesutton) invited me to have a speaking part, and I took him up on it. I had a blast at his event. He combined with Kipp Bodner (@kbodnar32), Jeffrey L. Cohen (@dgtlpapercuts), and Ryan Boyles (@therab) to create the first ever SMBF conference.
The line-up they had was truly incredible, take a partial look at some of the tracks, and their speakers:
Take a look at my brief SlideShare of this (It was brief, but designed this way for more audience interaction)
Here also is a quick video I took of the intro to Waynes “Social Monitoring panel”
One of the highlights was the Keynote. It was both informative, and funny. I invite you to take a look at some of the skilled panelist they had.
Jason Falls, Laura Fitton (@Pistachio), Lucretia Pruitt, John Andrews
Overall this was a wonderful event, I had a blast presenting, and look forward to the next event, thanks Wayne, Kipp, Jeffrey and Ryan!

Last week our team comprised of me, Tim Moore and Lori Lorusso, had the privilege of teaching nearly 20 real estate agents from Coldwell Banker, Sea Coast Realty here in Wilmington, NC, the basics of social media. We had a blast with them, and we equally learned a lot from them. Social media is really an incredible useful tool for real estate agents, and as you’ll see from the testimonials, they agree. One of the agents, Ken Keegan, actually received 2 leads after the first day of our training using LinkedIn…no joke, watch his video too. The average home purchase price in his community of St. James Plantation, is about $500,000 so you do the math regarding how much he could possibly make off commission…! Drinks on Ken!! Again, these potential sales were a direct result of social media…
Enjoy the testimonials.

This has been one of the busiest summers for sure on the social media circuit, and it has no sign of slowing. A colleague of mine and a notable in the social sphere, Wayne Sutton (@waynesutton) has put together an incredible social media conference to be held October 23rd 2009 in Raleigh, North Carolina next month called “Social Media Business Forum.” Of course with a program like this, he has had help putting this together with the help of his partners Kipp Bodner (@kbodnar32), Jeffrey L. Cohen (@dgtlpapercuts), and Ryan Boyles (@therab)
Well, what is this even all about, and why should you attend? Here are some things you can expect:
The Social Media Business Forum will feature the following:
They will be discussing ways in which business communications have changed due to social media. Sessions will include discussions and panels on internal and external communications methods for both B2B and B2C companies. I have had a chance to go over the schedule (Take a look) and there are going to be some incredible, practical topics such as how to monitor social media, introduction to FaceBook, linkedIn, Twitter, building your online community and much more…
The video below sums it up, in fact one of the features of this event is that finally…finally…finally you can attend a conference with no high level fluff. This event is on a Friday, and the organizers promise you will be able to go to work the following Monday, actually use, and implement the things you learned…now that’s bang for your buck! Wayne graciously asked if I would be a speaker on one of the panels, so I will be making sure to prepare information that a business can immediately use…oh the pressure! Hope to see you in Raleigh!
Be sure to get updates on Social Media Business Forum on Twitter @SMBusinessForum & FaceBook.com/SMBF

Actually I am not. Corker is defined as “one that is excellent or remarkable” so doesn’t really fit me, however it does fit Jenni Simcoe and her business, Corkologie.com. Jenni was nice enough to send us a couple samples of her eco-friendly cork mouse pads, and they are not only cool, but easy on the environment. You can get custom eco-friendly names put on your own pads too. For a live view of the mouse pad I got, take a look below at my TwitVid, I chose the “Home Sweet Earth” pad. Which one would you choose? Let me know in a comment below. Be sure to follow Jenni on Twitter here.
Jenni, thanks again for promoting a “Green” environment, got to keep mother Earth clean…

Wow, we all had a scare just now…Did anyone see what we saw…Twitter was down, and I mean down. However, it’s back now but is this a backlash from last weeks API attack? Please let me know if you find out more about this, leave a comment, or video comment..

In just a few days myself, and our SayItSocial team will be attending the social media event of the summer, Social Fresh – Charlotte! We look forward to meeting an incredible line-up of speakers ranging from Best Buy, IBM, RubberMaid, FaceBook and more!
Jason Keath has done an incredible job at putting this event together, it takes someone to “just do it” so thanks again Jason for taking the initiative. Social Fresh is sold out, however there will be some fun festivities before and after the event and is open to the general public for a small entry fee, so please sign up, and hope to meet you there!
Also, Jason was nice enough to throw some “shout outs” to us on his Social Fresh site here. Additionally, if you are a business attending this event, we will be giving away a free social media assessment…! For details, take a look.
We will be live Tweeting, Twit-Cam’ming, and much more, so please keep posted on my social accounts, as well as Tim Moore & Lori Lorusso‘s twitter accounts!
To follow Social Fresh during the event, here are their Twitter Deets! Jason Keath & SoFresh. Come by our Booth!
Finally, we will be broadcasting live on our SayItSocial Blog Talk Radio from our booth, or anywhere our laptops will be, here is the show button!
